Anti-Poverty Week / Blog Action Day

Anti-Poverty week started on the 13thof October. The aim of the project was to get bloggers all around the globe to type up a blog about poverty. We were also told that that everyone would be writing on Wednesday the 15th.

Our class is writing about education & what an impact it makes on peoples lives. Education is needed by all kids so that they can have a brighter and more successful future. Kids under the affect of poverty don’t have this sort of luxury. They are forced to go find food and money so they can feed their family. This is why we are part of Blog Action Day, to help others realise what poverty is doing to other kids out there. Poverty doesn’t just affect the homeless; it also affects people who do have shelter but not much money. The most common continent affected by this malicious epidemic is
Africa.

Can you possibly sit comfortably on your couch & watch T.V knowing that other kids out there are living under no more than a dollar? So please join us on our fight to save kids from this cruel disease. Where in it & and you should be in it too!

Mario & Sonic At The Olympics - Part 1

The Gold medal decider was about to begin. The teams nervously waited for the ref to blow the whistle. Team Sonic were going for the 1st ever Gold medal while Team Mario were going for their 3rd consecutive medal, something never achieved in the history of the sport.

The ref blew the whistle and the teams ran onto the pitch more nervously then they waited. “Welcome to the Gold medal decider between Team Sonic & Team Mario”, roared the commentator. It was going to be an epic battle between one of the greatest rivalries of all time. Sonic, Knuckles, Tails & Bowser on one side: Mario, Luigi, Wario & Dr. Eggman on the other. The game started in stunning fashion with Knuckles hitting a deadly shot only to be denied by the brilliance and athleticism of Wario their goalkeeper. Team Mario immediately replied with a dangerous from Luigi that just hit the crossbar!

And from there on the game went into frenzy.

Here’s what happened. Mario whipped in a cross for his team mate Bowser. As the ball flew in, an amazing Bowser went for bicycle. But instead of hitting the ball, he accidentally hit his opponent Dr. Eggman.

Bowser was given an immediate red card while Dr. Eggman had to go of with a concussion. The game went on and the teams were continually getting chances to score.

The game changed when all of a sudden, Dr. Eggman came back on with his head bandaged. The crowd were stunned by his courage to come back on. The game continued in a flash with Mario grabbing a goal with a ferocious shot.

This is how it happened. Luigi hit a perfectly timed through ball for Mario. Mario showed enough speed to get to it and hit an immediate shot with his laces. The ball flew and flew and caught on fire!Tails, doing the best he could to save it, jumped up and got a hold of the ball, only to be forced into the back of the net due to the power of the shot. 1-0 was the score at half time.

Stay tuned for part 2 of this nail biting story.

Dutch Delight!

Dutch Delight!

Over the past few weeks, our class have been working on our holiday projects and I’m here to tell you some of the things I’ve found out about my country The Netherlands.

The
Netherlands flag consists of 3 colours also known as tri-colours. These colours are red, white and blue.

The red represents hardiness, bravery, strength & valour.

The white means peace and honesty.

The blue represents vigilance, truth & loyalty, perseverance & justice.

The Dutch population is at an estimated 16.2 million people. The Dutch Capital is
Amsterdam. The land size of the country is an estimated 33 400 sq km.The currency used in The Netherlands is euros.

Not only did we have to do the flag but our teacher also told us that we should create something else that would represent the nature of the country; a sport, torch, medals, etc.

The
Netherlands is an extremely wet country which is why I decided to come up with a sport called the Water Sprint. The aim of the game is the sprint a 100m barefoot without slipping on the wet grass.

Well this is what I did for my holiday project and I hope you enjoyed it. Now lets start looking forward for
Beijing!

Crazy Chaos At Cross Country!

On the 16th of May, our school had our annual cross country race. It was a tiring day with everyone racing for glory!

There were many races from the 8 year old girls to the 12 year old boys. Many people achieved their main objective, finishing the race.

There were sparks flying all around when the houses had their war cry. The houses were Freeman (yellow), Newcombe (red), Frazer (green) and Bradman (blue).

Most people who came 1st or 2nd in their age race made it to the Zone Carnival, a more tough and competitive event. Many people who finished their race were really proud of all the effort they put in. CONGRATULATIONS to all those who attended the event!

2008 Annual Crazy Hat ‘n’ Hair Day

dsc04516.JPG     Today was our Annual Crazy Hat ‘n’ Hair Day! We dressed up in mufti and decorated our hair with extremely cool, funny and not to mention good looking accessories. We had a parade which included all 15 classes plus the teachers. After 7 classes paraded around the stage, we announced half the winners of the raffle.  Whoever was announced from the raffle was to go to the front of the stage and choose a chocolate prize.      dsc04529.JPG

After another 8 classes paraded, Mrs Penman and Mrs Bickerton announced the people with the most creative hair or hat from each class. The winner got a minor prize. The day was an exhilarating one with moments to remember.

Farewell Post To All

This year has been a wonderful year for me. Part of that reason was because I had my own blog. I’ve had many great experiences this year and I’m really looking forward for 2008 and its expectations.  I’ve had a lot of great achievements and highlights this year including me becoming a prefect and a peer mediator. Another great highlight this year was me making it into the PSSA boy’s soccer team and making it into the Zone Carnival which I was very proud of. I hope I will have another great year with Mrs. Pericles.

What Makes Me concerned?

My speech is about what makes me concerned. Well my answer is Global Warming. Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected and its projected continuation. The Earth’s climate changes in response to external forcing, including variations in its orbit around the sun (orbiting force), volcanic eruptions, and atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations.

The greenhouse effect was discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1824 and was first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896. It is the process by which absorption and emission of infrared radiation by atmospheric gases warms a planet’s atmosphere and surface. The temperatures will rise and snow will be a thing of the past. Kevin Rudd has signed and is trying to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. The only countries who haven’t signed the Kyoto Protocol are United States and
Kazakhstan.

If Global Warming isn’t stopped, then all coastal cities will be flooded. Global Warming affects me pretty dramatically because I always wanted to live a peaceful and happy life. This may not happen. To help stop Global Warming you can use an Energy Efficient light bulb. Thank you for listening to my speech. J

Yes, it was that time of the year again! It was time for the stage 3 camp! There was almost everything a camper would want. There was rock climbing, canoeing, archery and even a Water Slide!

The best activity in my opinion was canoeing. As I went under the cupboard to get my wet pair of shoes, something disgusting happened. A brown pair of underwear’s fell on me! Guess who it was? Clements! I ran away as quick as I could.

On the second night we had a Trivia Quest! We had to split into groups of 5 or 6. We then had to choose team names. Ours was ‘The Schwarzenegger’s’.  We were up against ‘The Master’s Of Disasters’, ‘The Bau Chika Wau Wau’s, “The Slayers’, etc. Who ever won the Trivia Quest won a prize each. And guess what? We won! That night we also watched a movie called Happy Feet. It was really funny.

On the third day we went to the Water Slide. It was about 30m slide. I had loads of fun. On my last turn I went with Ramiz. We made the biggest splash! After that we went to the hall to do Christian Discovery. We sang a song called John 3:16. After that we had lunch. We ate hamburgers and drank cordial. After we ate billabongs. After that we received our prizes. It was candy. I took the chocolate buds. I after it was time to leave. So if you ever get a chance to go camp, GO!

US Visitors - Americans Visits Aussies!

US Visitors - Americans Visits Aussies!Last week, a group of educators from the
USA visited our school to see how we use 21st century skills.Unlike other past visitors, we showed them what we do with technology ( not tell). People in our class had chosen a subject to present to the visitors. First, Momtahina and me did a presentation about why we blog. We also told the visitors about the applications we use to help us learn such as - MissionMaker and Toondoo.  After the presentation, the visitors walked around the classroom to speak to the kids and so the kids can show the visitors about what they where doing on the computer. After what happened, the Americans might’ve learned something from the Aussies ;). Hope the Americans will visit our blogs!

MissionMaker Story # 1

The Museum owner has just phoned me saying that there has been a burglary and that 3 of my inventions have been stolen. I then rush to the scene to find no trace of the burglar, not even fingerprints. I feel angry and I just want to scream out but I restrain myself. I then hear a faint screeching sound and see the silhouette of someone, could this be the burglar? It came closer and closer it looked like It had a gun, I was sweating, I was nervous. “Oh, glad to see you Thomas!” said the museum owner. “Oh, am I glad to hear your voice Patrick”, I said in relief. “I thought you were the burglar, Patrick.” “I thought you were the burglar!” Patrick  said. We both gave a sigh of relief. “Well Thomas, off you go, this might be the most important thing that you will have done in your life. Good luck and good-bye”, he said. “Thank you, and good-bye”, I replied.

And then I set out on a quest to find my artefacts….
